Last night I went to bed feeling abdominal pain. Tried sleeping it off but after 2 hours it didn’t subside. Dr. Sen’s hand out says to call the hospital if pain lasts for that long, so I woke Kim up to let him know we should call.

The (midwife?) on the phone for triage asked a few questions, and assessed that I could keep using my hot water bottle, take a panadol and try sleeping it off. If it escalates, then I’m in labour!

Unfortunately in hindsight it was more of a gastro thing than the onset of labour. I was up from 2am for an hour, and in that time, had two bowel movements and finally yakked up the soup from dinner.

I can see why people become bulemic, so much of the pain subsided after I threw up. Pretty sure whatever endorphins vomiting releases helped to ease any of the abdominal cramping I was having.

Whatever it was – it gave me a sneak peek at what might come up for labour. I was surprised that I actually didn’t want to move at all. Maybe contractions will be different, but if it’s anything like the period cramps and toilet urges people describe, then maybe I won’t even end up wanting to move around!

I was also exhausted. The one hour seemed to go on for ages while I was in pain. Not sure how I’ll deal with that when women can be in labour for days.

Hopefully the stomach thing didn’t affect baby. Woke up thirsty but no more pain and baby has been moving regularly.

It’s coming up soon. Kinda glad that happened to prepare me even just a little bit!
