It was so nice to get out of the city and back in to nature!
Finally on my third trip to the Mount Fuji and five lakes area I was able to see the entire mountain clearly. Being near the immense and magnificent presence of Fujisan I felt extremely humbled upon seeing it at every angle.
Cycling up Mount Fuji
Last weekend I got the chance to cycle up Mount Fuji. I rode as far as the roads go, where the hikers only begin their journey (seeing them made me really want to hike the rest of it)
On the way up, the roads have markers along the side. I was really struggling between 9 to 6 kilometres left of climbing. I stopped on the side of the road, ate what was left of my onigiri, and trudged on. What followed the depths of despair was euphoria and my stubborn will to finish. Luckily the boyfriend texted to say that the last 2 kilometres are flat and I sprinted what I could of the last bit.
It took 4 hours and 17 minutes to ride 60kms with 1,373m elevation gain – but I did it!
Big hugs and thanks to Kim for taking me there, waiting for me at the top and also on the way down.
Lake Kawaguchi, Saiko and Yamanaka
The lakes were wonderful! My favourite was lake Saiko. It was so serene, didn’t have much traffic, and the roads are right along the edge of the lake.
